We at StructureCraft are a dedicated, skilled, and leading-edge group of structural consulting engineers, computational and 3D designers, detailers, preconstruction engineers, project managers, supervisors, and carpenters. Our team hails from a variety of geographic locations including Canada, the United States, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Central America, South America, and Asia. Things can become fairly energetic around World Cup time!
Our core purpose, owned by all of our people:
“To engineer and build beautiful and efficient structures that people love to own and use.”
We work with developers, owners and architects to engineer, fabricate and erect carefully detailed building and bridge structures in timber, steel, glass, concrete and other materials. As both structural engineers and builders, we enjoy challenges which break new ground, and our extensive experience with wood has won numerous awards for innovation in timber engineering and construction. We make beautiful and efficient structures possible by leveraging our turnkey delivery model, from engineer-of-record services through to fabrication engineering, material procurement, logistics planning and erection. In 2024, StructureCraft was named one of the Top 25 Innovators in Construction by Site News, and was an awardee of the Canadian Business Awards in 2025.
Located 1 hour east of Vancouver in Abbotsford, BC, our headquarters operates out of a state-of-the-art 60,000 sf. office and shop facility. Our main operations take place here, where we engineer, build, and manage the projects we’re involved in. In 2024, StructureCraft Abbotsford won a Business Excellence Award from the local Chamber of Commerce.
Our Vancouver structural engineering office is located in the heart of Mt. Pleasant. This office operates as a satellite office to our Abbotsford headquarters, tightly connected to provide engineering, 3D modelling and fabrication detailing, and project management services.

Gerald has been an inquisitive engineer all his life. From long hours whittling wooden creations in his boyhood, to testing the span limits of wood-steel hybrid structures on the design board and at site, nothing stops his relentless curiosity and drive for both efficiency and elegance.
His professional career now spans more than 40 years, and along the way this creativity and persistence has been rewarded with delighted clients and numerous national and international awards for engineering excellence. A large part of Gerald’s success can be attributed to a decision made half way through his career to not only engineer, but also build the structures he was engineering. So in 1998 he created StructureCraft, to explore what was possible with timber in the modern context, using what he calls the Engineer-Build approach, where StructureCraft takes early responsibility for both the structural engineering and construction of their scope.
Under Gerald’s leadership, StructureCraft engineers and builds a broad variety of projects, through a team of structural engineers, project managers, and a 50,000 sq.ft. facility which serves as a manufacturing base, workshop and testing laboratory to drive efficiency in structural design. His collaborations have resulted in signature projects of nearly every genre, from institutional and recreational buildings like the timber roof of the Speedskating Oval for the 2010 Winter Olympics, to mass timber office buildings like T3 in Minneapolis and Atlanta, to footbridges like that over the Bow River in Banff, to long span grid shells and free-form structures like the Taiyuan Botanical Gardens in China.
Gerald was a keynote speaker at the 2016 World Conference on Timber Engineering, and peers have recognized his broader achievements with an honorary membership in the Architectural Institute of BC, and the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
Gerald’s engineering fingerprints can be found on every StructureCraft project.

Lucas is a structural engineer with more than 20 years of experience working in Canada, the UK, and New Zealand. After graduating from UBC, he spent several years working for StructureCraft, where he was responsible for modelling several large-scale timber projects including the 2010 Olympic Speed Skating Oval roof structure. Following a desire to explore abroad, he moved to London, UK for 5 years to work for Buro Happold. While there, he worked with some of the world's leading architects designing a range of projects including London's Olympic Stadium and a 300m (1000ft) tower in Kuwait. He then moved to New Zealand, working there on several seismically challenging projects for 2 years prior to returning to Canada.
His expertise with complex geometry and challenging structures has led to involvement in projects where the close interaction of architecture and structure is critical to the success of the project. Lucas has been an invited speaker and guest lecturer at ETH Zurich, the Architectural Association in London, and MIT, among others.
Lucas has had a lifelong exposure to timber, working at StructureCraft from a young age on the shop floor. He has since been involved in many of the company's signature projects, including the sweeping 200m (650 ft) long Arena Stage Theatre facade in Washington, DC and an 80m (265 ft) clear span footbridge in Banff, and now leads the engineering department at StructureCraft.

Lukas joined StructureCraft after completing his degree in Timber Engineering in Germany in 2020. In the years since then he was involved in projects that cover a wide range of size and complexity and that spread across North America, Europe and Asia. His past work experience as a carpenter helps him to combine theoretical and practical knowledge on all projects that he is involved in. This was particularly vital when facing the design challenges of the Spiral Stairs at the KFA Centre for Excellence, a 70ft long and about 23 ft high staircase that utilizes doubly curved CLT with a composite concrete topping, as well as the free-form timber structure for the Fraser Mills Presentation Centre.
His Bachelor Thesis investigated the use of timber concrete composite systems for the use of road bridges and since then he has widened his knowledge about composite systems of all types in an effort to use every material for its best properties.
At StructureCraft his focus is on the Fabrication Engineering phase of our projects where he finds buildable solutions to connections and fabrication details and ensures that all the design intents from the Consulting phase are met in practical and cost-efficient ways. He loves to work closely with our shop and site teams to create a seamless and smooth transition into the construction phase of each project.
In his free time Lukas enjoys everything that is related to the outdoors, such as hiking, camping, skiing and sailing.
