Mark Porter Appointed Chair of Engineers and Geoscientists BC

By Lucas Epp,
Vice President & Head of Engineering

StructureCraft’s Managing Structural Engineering Director Mark Porter, a longstanding member of the BC engineering community, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) for the 2024-2025 term. EGBC is the regulatory and licensing body responsible for setting and maintaining professional practice standards for engineers in British Columbia, and has a long history as one of the band of self-governing provincial engineering associations for which Canada has been held in such high regard worldwide. Learn more here.

This significant achievement comes after Mark's service as Vice Chair and Board Director at EGBC and reflects his strong commitment to the engineering profession in British Columbia. As the new Chair, Mark will play a crucial role in governance, strategic planning, and the support of EGBC's mandate to respectfully regulate the engineering profession in British Columbia.

As I step into the role of Board Chair at Engineers and Geoscientists BC, I see the need to focus on building relationships, fostering collaboration, and ensuring we're equipped to meet the challenges of a changing world. From my work on structures in the UK, Caribbean, and Canada, I’m proud of the lasting impact engineers and geoscientists have on society, which is why preserving our ability to self-regulate is vital to upholding the highest standards of professional practice. Leading our efforts on climate adaptation has reinforced the importance of this responsibility, as has my work with StructureCraft, where we’re shaping a more sustainable future.

With close to 30 years of leadership experience, Mark’s work around sustainability and economic building design was recognized by the award of Fellow in the Institution of Structural Engineers (FIStructE) and Fellow of Engineers Canada (FEC). He has led cross-disciplinary structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams on award-winning projects such as the Wood Innovation Design Centre in Prince George and Vancouver's YVR CORE Terminal upgrades.
