The first timber columns are up at Bridge District Parcel 5 in Washington, DC! Installation began on October 26, marking the start of a structure that is set to become the tallest timber tower on the U.S. East Coast.

Twelve timber storeys will rise above a concrete ground level, creating a 13-storey building with 272 rental apartments and ground-floor retail along the Anacostia waterfront. Across the 310,000-square-foot project, timber will remain exposed throughout the living spaces.

From the podium upward

The columns are the first pieces of a glulam post-and-beam frame supporting cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors. The structural model below shows how that frame repeats through the tower above the concrete podium.

StructureCraft is the Structural Engineer of Record for the full building, including its foundations, and the design-builder for the timber structure.
