619 Ponce City Market
Timber Sourcing & Installation
619 Ponce is a unique case study for how local timber sourcing, combined with efficient structural design and an innovative floor system, can result in both a cost effective and low carbon structure. Southern Yellow Pine glulam and CLT was harvested from local Jamestown forests and fabricated within a 200 mile radius of the site.
The raised floor system above the CLT consists of sand and sleepers to eliminate the wet trade, and associated embodied carbon, of a concrete topping. StructureCraft, alongside Handel Architects, performed an in-depth Life Cycle Analysis for the Georgia Carbon Registry to compare the Global Warming Potential of the timber structure with a concrete baseline building. Given the success of this recently completed building, it is anticipated that the project will act as a catalyst for more locally sourced Southern Yellow Pine mass timber buildings in the Southeast.
