Port Alberni Secondary School
StructureCraft was asked to design, supply and install the WoodWave and custom-hybrid trusses to replace the standard steel decking on OWSJs. The end result was a structural-architectural-acoustic panel which carried the Port Alberni snow loads, supplied an appearance-grade ceiling and absorbed the gymnasium noise.
The hybrid glulam-steel trusses were carefully designed, and optimized for cost and fabrication efficiency. The 5,600 sqft Wood Wave roof deck was erected in one day and consisted of 10 panels 11’ wide X up to 44’ long. Each panel was built up of 7 Vees of 10-1/2” depth x 16” width filled with mineral wool and capped with a 1/2” plywood skin.
