Sustainable Architecture for Urban Living

A new Viridea Garden Center is being delivered in Carate Brianza along State Road 36, converting three industrial lots into a contemporary retail campus that strengthens everyday access to plants, gardening supplies, and outdoor-living products for the northern Milan area. The plan establishes two site entrances (Via della Valle and Via Nuova Vallassina), 323 customer parking spaces, and municipal benefits including over 9,000 m² of permanent green space and a new cycle path.

Inside, the program combines a large horticultural sales floor with a retail marketplace for agricultural products, plus a green-style restaurant/café and supporting offices - an arrangement consistent with Viridea’s brand and community-oriented model.

Designed by the Design Department of Viridea, the architecture reads as a series of offset peaked roofs that bring daylight into the customer areas. StructureCraft is responsible for the structural engineering and supports Rabensteiner with construction management of the above-grade superstructure: fixed-base steel columns free the plan of braced bays, supporting long-span timber beams and purlins. A mixture of Sandwich roof panels and glass surfaces complete the envelope, with timber bracing providing roof-level stability and south-facing planes featuring photovoltaics. Fire-resistance is targeted at 30 minutes for sales areas and 60 minutes for storage, restaurant, offices, and stairs.

Pietro Vinco da Sesso, our Director leading this project, says:
"Where greenhouse structures are traditionally realized in steel or aluminum with extensive glazing, here the introduction of timber elements brings a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere, aligning the technical performance of the building with the natural qualities of the products on display."
