Smithers Airport
Dlt, CLT and Glulam Timber Structure.
The Smithers Airport modernization project was aimed at expanding the terminal building by 6,000 sqft in an effort to create a more efficient and welcoming environment for the approximate 80,000 passengers who pass through the airport annually.
Our role on the project was to supply and install the DLT roof panels as well as the supporting CLT shear walls and Glulam moment frames. This project demonstrated the efficient use of both DLT and CLT in their respective strengths.
Smithers Airport was one of the first projects in North America to be built using Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT), the only all wood mass timber panels. Our crew successfully installed the structure in the cold Smithers winter.
StructureCraft, along with teams from Vector Projects, Studio 531, and Kerkhoff Engineering delivered a new structure that will help Smithers Airport achieve:
Greater visitor capacity, and flow
An inspiring design that utilizes timber, including Dowel Laminated Timber, North America’s first all-wood mass timber panel
Enhance the views of surrounding mountains as well as forests
