Aldergrove Recreation Centre Canopies

StructureCraft was selected by Graham Construction to engineer, supply and install the Aldergrove Recreation Centre exterior timber canopies. The 7 canopies feature 15,000 sqft of our DLT (Dowel-Laminated Timber) slabs on glulam beams and steel columns.

In collaboration with the general contractor, the architect, and the base building engineer, we engineered all the exterior canopy superstructures. DLT slabs carried the gravity loads and acted as the shear diaphragms, glulam beams spanned from walls to columns, and tube-steel columns carried the gravity and lateral loads down to the foundations.

We manufactured the DLT panels in our Abbotsford shop, framed the glulam members, pre-installed connections, pre-coated the wood with a durable tinted multi-coat stain, and then erected the structures over several months on site as the substructures became available to us.
