Engineer-Build
Deeply arched spruce glulam trusses were fitted with V-shaped kingposts, custom cast connections and structural strand tension ties. Custom screwed purlin hangers were designed and tested in our shop. Through intensive structural modeling, the members and connections were designed to work together to resist high unbalanced snow loading.
Durable transparent coatings were applied to the glulam arches and purlins, with additional UV-protection and flashings applied to wood exposed to the elements. Detailed modeling and design of every component was carried out, including ductile iron castings, steel support connections and glulam members.
Pre-assembly of the arch-trusses and the combined roof/ceiling panels in our shop resulted in a remarkably short site erection duration. The challenge of installing large, unwieldy trusses was overcome by bolting sub-assemblies together on the suspended 2nd floor slab, tilting the completed truss up to vertical and field-welding the base connections.
Roof panels were designed to incorporate hinged wood batten ceiling panels complete with acoustic insulation and passageways for sprinklers and lights. These composite roof/ceiling panels were pre-fabricated, shipped complete to site and erected, and were operated by mechanical and electrical trades people as they installed their equipment.
